Event

Project Anime is a multi-day conference designed to connect promoters of anime conventions (and fan conventions that feature anime) with distribution companies, vendors, and each other for the purpose of “adding fuel to the fandom.”

American fans of Japanese popular culture are passionate about their interests. While enjoying varying degrees of success over the past decade, this creative industry can only be better served by allying all parties who share in actively supporting the genre: distributors, promoters and vendors.

Project Anime takes place June 27-28, 2012 in Los Angeles, California.  These dates are the Wednesday and Thursday preceding Anime Expo® 2012 (also in Los Angeles.)  This will allow conference attendees to view, first hand, over 50,000 fans at an anime convention fresh from discussing how to have an impact on them (and the culture) going forward.

The two day event will offer presentations and round-table discussions about topics faced by promoters and volunteers in this unique industry.  A number of contributors have been invited along with sponsors who can specifically impact fan convention success.

The event is presented by the Society for the Promotion of Japanese Animation (SPJA) in association with Wasabi Anime®.

The Society for the Promotion of Japanese Animation (SPJA) is a organization that works to promote the arts that are related to Japanese Animation and the culture that surrounds it. In order to do so, the SPJA has various ongoing projects that work to achieve this goal. Fueled by the dedication and support of a large workforce of volunteers and dedicated individuals, the SPJA owns properties such as Anime Expo®, the largest anime convention in North America.

Since 1992, the SPJA has watched anime fandom expand across the U.S. thanks to the passion of clubs, communities and other consumer based media shows that focus (directly and indirectly) around aspects of Japanese pop culture.

In 2012, the SPJA is looking for your help in networking the innovators and supporters of this culture with the Project Anime initiative.

Started in 2001, Wasabi Anime® is a production company that designs, operates and promotes events for consumer focused media shows (aka “fan conventions”).  While specializing in anime themed concepts, their experienced team of artists, designers, event managers and performers have developed entertainment for a number of nationally known conventions celebrating a variety of genres in popular culture.   Since its inception, Wasabi Anime has appeared at over fifty conventions across North America including Anime Weekend Atlanta, Dragon*Con, Florida Supercon, and Gen Con.

They also independently own and operate a number of conventions including Florida Anime Experience and InvaderCON.
